Kickstarter
has made a name for itself as one of the leading crowdfunding
platforms, with a mission to bring creative projects to life. There is a
vast array of projects to browse and even pledge money to. You only
have to think of projects like Glyph from Avegant, the Pebble Smartwatch, or even Oculus Rift
to realize how valuable Kickstarter is to budding inventors and
entrepreneurs. However not everything you find is serious, genuine or
even worth spending your money on. Take a look through our collection of
some of the most bizarre campaigns ever started on Kickstarter.
Record Breaking Jockstrap
Artist Michael Barrett set out to break the world record
for the largest jockstrap ever made. He needed $850 for the project and
as you can see from the picture, he made it!
Ostrich Pillow
Forget sticking your head into the sand, that's just too
messy. What you need is a nice warm, cosy hidey hole - enter the
Ostrich Pillow. Stick your head and arms instead and you can instantly
shut out the world, gain some peace and quiet and send a clear message
of 'leave me alone'!
Grilled Cheesus
You hear so many stories of people seeing venerated
figures appear in food stuffs. Well, the Grilled Cheesus machine
guarantees that you'll get a holy sandwich every time, as it presses an
image of Jesus into your sarnie.
Sexy Smartphone Charger
This product is anything but sexy, with a USB charger
instead of private parts and a charger cable that extends from the
dummie's rear-end. Although this project was meant to be a joke, it has
already received support.
Potato Salad
This may sound downright stupid - and it is, however
Zach Danger Brown (who originally had a goal of just $10), has $55,000
to spend on ingredients for potato salad. Proving that he has a great
sense of humor, Zach has also added upgrades to the project, allowing
you to pledge $100 in order to receive two different types of potato
salad! I don't know what's more crazy - the project itself or the fact
that people actually funded it!
Griz Coat
Branded as "the original grizzly bear jacket", the Griz
Coat is apparently "not a costume. It's a lifestyle." More of a fancy
dress costume than a fashion statement, this roaring howler definitely
deserves to be in the list of most bizarre Kickstarter projects.
Cloud Project
Kurt Braunohler, a comedian from L.A. thought it would
be funny to request funding for a stunt that involved a plane writing
stupid things with clouds. He indeed achieved his target and actually
received $7,000, which was spent hiring a plane and pilot. As everyone
gathered in anticipation to see what would happen, the plane wrote "how
do i land?" across the L.A. skyline. A little disappointing don't you
think?
Chicken Burrito
You may have thought that Zach Danger Brown was an idiot
for asking for funding to make a potato salad but at least he made
something. Noboru Bitoy however wanted $8 so that he could a chicken
burrito from Chipotle. Unbelievably people went mad for this crazy
project, leaving Noburo Bitoy enough money to go skydiving alongside a
burrito!
Meat Soap
Who wants to smell of jasmine, lotus flower or
sandalwood when you can smell of freshly-cooked bacon?! Head over to
Kickstarter for your bacon soap now!
